Jack Fleck,
I spoke with Ricardo Olea on Monday,
September 26, regarding traffic and parking problems on John
Muir Drive. He advised me to write to you. Both the management
representatives of the Lakewood Apartments and the Lakewood Tenants Association
are receiving many complaints from the tenants of these apartments regarding
the many trucks, busses, RVs and boats who park on John Muir Drive for very long
periods of time. In some cases these
vehicles park in the same spot for months.
We feel that these illegally parked vehicles lessen visibility of the
walking paths from the street, add to the general proliferation of trash and
garbage on both sides of the road and are growing in number. We have been in contact with the Department
of Parking and Traffic and the Taraval Police Department concerning enforcement
procedures. The problem, despite help
from these agencies, is worsening.
Ross Wilkinson,
our association vice-president, and I met with Amy Sexton, manager of Lakewood
Apartments, Monday, to discuss the addition of “no parking” signs to John
Muir Drive as a means of further
discouraging illegal parking on this strip.
It was concluded that we would support parking restrictions on both
sides of John Muir Drive south of the tennis courts (attached to the Lakewood
Apartment complex) up to the intersection where John Muir Drive meets Lake
Merced Boulevard. We advocate “no
parking anytime” on the Olympic Club side of John
Muir Drive and “no parking 10pm to 6am”
on the lake side of John Muir Drive. Ideally these signs would begin at the
foremost point of the tennis courts and proceed south to the intersection with
Lake Merced Blvd. As a fallback position
we would advocate the “no parking 10pm
to 6am” on both sides of the street along the
indicated portion of John Muir Drive. Further, we would request that you revisit
the signs three months after installation to appraise their effectiveness.
Thank you for working with us. Please let me know if there is anything that
we can do to hasten the process for getting the signs installed.
Sincerely,
Mona Cereghino,
President, Lakewood
Tenants Association
