THE PURPOSE OF THE LAKEWOOD TENANTS ASSOCIATION is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between the tenants of these apartments for our mutual benefit. There is strength in numbers. Abuses of individual tenants are far less likely to occur where there is a means for the individual tenant to notify others of any such abuse. In addition, tenants may feel more comfortable notifying a tenant association of problems with the property than the management. The management of Lakewood Apartments might benefit from earlier notice of problems than they would otherwise receive without a tenant association.

 Goals and Objectives:

1.) To assemble a permanent organization that will obtain enough members to be representative of the interests of all tenants at Lakewood Apartments.

2.) To negotiate improvements in the management of the property to the benefit of all tenants.

3.) To be a central point for reporting and learning of concerns that might be of common interest to other tenants.

4.) For enforcement of group tenant rights.

 What We Are Not:

1.) We will not, as an organization, be providing advice or help to individual tenants to resolve individual problems with the landlord. Everyone has their own individual complaints with the management. The officers of the association would be inundated with requests for individual and specific help if we did not exclude it. Because the officers of the association are, themselves, tenants and volunteers, they are only willing to guide the association to resolve concerns common to groups of tenants.

2.) This organization is not intended to be necessarily opposed to the interests of the owners or their designated agents and managers. It is not to be a vehicle to simply attack the owners and management for illegitimate reasons. While we will not shrink away from any confrontation with the owners/managers over issues of common concern to tenants, we hope that by establishing a tenant association, there will be fewer reasons for confrontations to occur in the first place. (A strong organization will create an incentive for the owners/managers to treat us all as valued customers of their business rather than as annoyances or enemies to be ignored.)
