Survey of Access Security at Lakewood Apartments, San Francisco The linked spreadsheet is of a door inspection performed 8/5/03 and 8/6/03 at Lakewood Apartments, San Francisco. There are 80 doors that need to be secure to keep intruders from accessing the common areas of the residential structure. Some doors secure the hallways of the residence from the outdoors, some secure the garages from the outdoors and some secure the hallways of the residence from the garages. San Francisco's Building Security Ordinance requires that all such doors be maintained as reliably self-closing and locked. Reports of inspections such as the enclosed have been submitted to the landlord for years. Nevertheless, many doors are still not secure. This report identifies the locations of such doors and the specific problems found on the dates inspected. Notes at the end of the report define our criteria for acceptance or rejection of the condition of the doors in specific categories. These criteria are designed to reject doors that currently fail to perform their security function or are likely to become so in the proximate future absent timely repairs. Additional reports might be issued in the future as circumstances warrant. All of us that reside at Lakewood should be concerned about the security
of this property in light of the history of break-ins to vehicles in the
garages and the recent burglaries of occupied apartments. You can enhance
your own security as well as that of others by promptly reporting any
defects in the maintenance of any of the security doors to the property
manager. Giving such notice in writing and providing a copy to your tenant
association is recommended. You can also minimize any unintentional damage
to the doors by propping any door open only by tying the handle or using
a door stop and by not placing anything in the hinge side of the door
where leverage could cause the hinges to bend such that the door might
not close properly. There are criminals purposely destroying the security
of the doors. If you witness any such acts, please notify the police,
your tenant association and the management as soon as possible. |
